Awareness Activity at Beit Furik School in Cooperation with APLA to Promote Understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals

As part of the ongoing awareness efforts led by APLA under its Community Engagement Program, Beit Furik Secondary School for Boys organized an educational activity on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in cooperation with Beit Furik Municipality and with technical support from APLA. More than 75 students took part in the event, which aimed to enhance their understanding of development issues, connect global goals to their local context, and highlight the role of municipalities in achieving sustainable community development.

This collaboration reflects APLA’s continuous efforts to embed a culture of sustainable development at both community and educational levels, while strengthening the partnership between municipalities and educational institutions in fostering participation, citizenship, and joint local action. The growing number of such initiatives demonstrates a notable shift in community awareness, as local institutions increasingly adopt APLA’s approach of integrating development awareness into everyday practice, reinforcing the link between education and local governance toward a more inclusive and sustainable future.

The activity in Beit Furik turned into an interactive learning experience, where students explored the SDGs through games and participatory exercises that linked knowledge with practice and encouraged teamwork and shared responsibility. A highlight of the event was the student-prepared SDG Exhibition in English, where participants creatively presented their understanding of the goals, reflecting their growing awareness of their role in local development.

This activity forms part of APLA’s broader efforts to promote community participation and sustainable development awareness among youth and students, by enabling municipalities to engage directly with schools and open spaces for dialogue and collaborative learning. It was implemented under the project “Empowering Palestinian Communities to Utilize Sustainable Development Opportunities”, funded by the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel in Palestine).
