APLA released a booklet titled ‘Green Buildings Guidelines" discussing various dimensions of sustainable architecture. The booklet presents the technical standards necessary to meet sustainability requirements in buildings, providing a brief definition of green buildings and mandatory regulations in all areas related to green construction.

The booklet addresses the sustainability of building sites in achieving climatic comfort, considering proper building orientation, shading, preventing pollution resulting from construction processes, indoor environmental quality, and other essential criteria to be followed.

The booklet also discusses the role of local authorities in promoting climate adaptation for buildings. According to the booklet, their role lies in raising awareness and educating about the importance of building knowledge regarding green buildings and their contribution to enhancing climate change resilience. Furthermore, it offers detailed data about buildings and environmentally friendly urban planning, enhancing infrastructure capacity and institutional capabilities through various training programs to promote concepts in climate adaptation and green construction.

In addition, local authorities contribute to building partnerships with the private sector by encouraging investment in green construction, providing alternative financial resources for projects funding, and offering incentives for the development of environmentally friendly design. Additionally, it entails the establishment of laws, amendments, and development of regulations governing the construction and demolition process, enhancing green construction standards, and environmental preservation within the Palestinian legislative system. The work also focuses on developing building permit conditions.

This booklet is part of APLA’s plan for raising awareness in the fields of climate change and the environment, funded by the Belgian Development Agency, Enabel. APLA leads the process of localizing sustainable development goals and aims to prioritize objectives and related indicators by preparing a plan to localize sustainable development goals at the local level. It is the first plan to define the priorities of local authorities regarding these goals, and their indicators, and outlines a set of activities to be implemented within the proposed plan.
