APLA has concluded a series of workshops focused on the localization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The aim of these workshops was to introduce local authorities to APLA’s efforts in this regard, as well as to prepare for launching of the action plans and programs of APLA that target LGUs. The workshops saw the participation of 117 representatives from 62 local entities across various regions of the West Bank. This initiative is part of the Local Governance Reform and Development Program by the Belgian Development Agency, funded by the Belgian government.
In the light of APLA’s endeavors towards SDGs localization, APLA has recently finalized the development of a plan to localize SDGs at LGUs level in Palestine. Additionally, it has created a specialized website dedicated to localizing Sustainable Development Goals. This website will serve as the main platform for all initiatives and efforts by Palestinian local authorities in achieving sustainable development. The goal is to create opportunities for Palestinian local authorities to engage in global initiatives and utilize available opportunities to implement priority programs and activities.
The training, supervised and conducted by the consultant Nasser Al-Sheikh Ali, extended over four days for LGUs in North, Middle and West of the West Bank. It provided an overview of Sustainable Development Goals and the global 2030 Agenda, highlighting the process of localization through regional models. The training also addressed the key challenges faced by local authorities in the localization process, their roles, and contributions. Moreover, APLA’s plan for localizing Sustainable Development Goals in Palestine was presented, along with a review of Palestine's Voluntary National Reports (VNRs) and models of Voluntary Local Reports (VLRs) conducted by neighboring cities.
